Nanowrimo 2017 Update: I didn’t make it.

Hi guys,

I just wanted to update you guys on what happened with Nanowrimo 2017. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to complete the challenge; however, I’ve been able to write over 30,000 words for the novel, “Confessions of an Abortion Addict.” I’ve been working on this book for quite some time, and I  definitely would say that I’ve made the most headway this month.

I want to finish the first draft by the end of the year, and I want your feedback to make it better. The other thing I wanted to request of you is to suggest to me how I should publish it? Should I go the traditional route? Or should I self-publish? And please can you share with me any resources to do so.

Finally, I want to thank every one of you for giving me support. It means the world to me, and I’m sorry I couldn’t go all the way.  I want to let you know that you following me makes me believe that I can one day make a living out of writing. Thank you for everything!

Love,

A.R. Minhas

Congrats on the progress you’ve made. Best of luck with your book.

When it comes to publishing, it’s really up to you which path you pursue. Each path has its ups and downs. Myself, I queried agents with little success, and then applied to small independent presses. One, Mockingbird Lane Press, offered me a contract and after going over it, I went with them.

Whichever path you go, I highly recommend getting someone to read/edit it first. You can find another writer or hire an independent editor (they’ll usually offer free samples you can see what they’re like), or you can join or start a critique group. I myself have been in groups and had a writer/editor, John DeDakis, give a critique. Having another pair of eyes go over your work will always help.

Thank you so much, Tapasi. I definitely will take my time and I want to make it as perfect as it is in my head. I really appreciate the support, it means everything to me. 😊

Well I couldn’t do Nananowrimo ( I freak on schedules) so give yourself plenty of credit 🙂 Hope you do finish your draft soon to stay on task even if you need nudges from us along the way.

Yeah, it was very tough doing the Nanowrimo while also taking care of responsibilities, but I definitely want to be more disciplined. Heading into the new year I will continue the good work. And thank you for the support, it really helps! 😊
